Close to the farm there are a number of fantastic walks for all and attractions located nearby, which ensure our visitors enjoy an active and entertaining holiday, at their chosen pace. Enjoy Keswick and surrounding area without the commercialization, or venture in to the central Lake District area and enjoy the many attractions avilable, in Ambleside, Windermere and Grassmere.

We provide an exellent base for those wanting to explore the Lake District or a quiet retreat to take things at whatever pace you choose.

 

Nearby Attractions

A footpath passing our location leads directly to Bassenthwaite Lake, just a 20-minute walk away. Or wander down the little country lane next to us that also goes to the lake. Less than 5 minutes walk brings you to Bassenthwaite village, with its quaint child/dog friendly Lakeland inn with a great selection of local ales, serving fantastic bar meals also with wifi. Just around the corner from Bassenthwaite Lake station, situated next to Silver Meadows nature reserve, a cafe offering the chance to eat aboard the Orient Express train. The Lake District Wildlife Park is situated around a mile away, as well as the Lakes Distillery, which brews whiskey, gin and vodka, offering daily tours and tasting sessions and offers a tea room and bistro. Also the chance to meet and walk with alpacas. For more sporting visitors, we are also a short distance from golf courses and a sailing club. Also close to hotels with a spa, health club and swimming pools, several tea rooms, bistros and restaurants.

The Mirehouse historic house and gardens and tea room is just a mile away from our caravan. Visitors will find a number of walking paths in Dodd Wood, as well as an osprey viewing point, and child's play area.

We are a few hundred yards from a lovely church and a little further away, just a lovely stroll is the historic St Bega's church, dating back to AD 950, on the shores of the Lake, well worth a visit.

Walking Routes

The caravan itself is situated in an ideal location, and provides walkers with a tranquil and peaceful retreat. You will be staying at the foot of Skiddaw, one of the most iconic Wainwrights, also with Ullock Pike towering over us, both of which keen walkers take great delight in scaling. There are a number of routes to follow, each of which caters to different levels of experience, be it a gentle ramble or a full days fell walking.

Also many local lovely short walks around this beautiful area suitable for all and their dogs.

Local Towns and Villages

Lakes Farm Caravan is positioned mid way between the great tourist mecca that is Keswick, with all it has to offer and the historic market town of Cockermouth. There is a local village just minutes away, which has a country pub serving food, a village green and play area, a seasonal small shop, there are many local hotels and bistros. A short car journey will take you to many different eateries.

Visit Wordsworths birth place at Cockermouth or go over the northern fells and visit Caldbeck, somewhat of a hidden gem, a lovely drive brings you to Windermere, Grassmere and Ambleside or head to the quieter Western Lakes, like Buttermere or Crummock, we have a great selection of leaflets detailing local attractions and places not to miss. We are sat on a bus stop, providing another option to discover the Lakes without the need to drive or park.
